From Arles-sur-Tech one can go directly to this beautiful and picturesque medieval city, located 19km upstream. |
 |
 |
The old roads, houses and bridges, were completely carried away with the floods of October 1940. The current road follows the course of an old railway, with the stations and bridges still in place.

Fort Lagarde, which dominates the village was built in 1680 to keep the Spanish at bay and subdue the local population. The fort has been beautifully restored and there are superb views from the ramparts.

An additional attraction, is the “visit spectacle” on summer afternoons when horsemen dressed as cavaliers recreate eighteenth-century cavalry training, with trick riding, sword fights and the firing of muskets and cannon..

With Canigou at its back, Prats-de-Mollo is a tourist attraction but surprisingly unspoilt. The old village within the city wall with cobbled streets is bustling with activity during the summer. |

The locals pass the time playing pétanque under the plane trees of El Firal, the large square outside the walls where markets and fairs have been held since the 14th century. There is plenty of local camping and various bars restaurants etc. |
