Some 7km south of Arles-sur-Tech the D3 minor road takes you to Saint Laurent de Cerdans.

During World War 2 the local clergy supervised the escape of the refugees towards Mont Negre crossing the frontier by the ‘Col des Massanes’ or up to Coustouges for the Riou Majou trail.

Today there are marked footpaths, variants of the HRP, which run east and west along the border from both Saint Laurent de Cerdans and Coustouges.

Saint Laurent was once a major producer of ‘bigatanes’ the special Catalan espadrille that has a double rope sole and ankle-laces. In the village there is a Museum of Art and Popular Traditions where you will see the production of the espadrilles.

There are two campsites, one just before the entrance to the village and another just beyond it.

There is a 18 whole golf course nearby which has also a hotel with a restaurant, bar, and sport and leisure facilities.
